What about the early 90s? Y’know, when there was an actual federal government shutdown courtesy of Newt Gingrich? Or that whole impeachment thing? I mean yeah it’s bad and intractable but “the worst since the civil war” seems like a stretch. One to get some attention so maybe somebody will take your class “The History of the American Congress”.
There have actually been multiple government shutdowns since t he early 1980’s. But in terms of actual legislation passed, this Congress is literally the worst. They’ve passed about 1/4 of the average, while introducing more “symbolic” bills than anyone.
